Summer Activities to Teach Kids About Giving Back

June 15, 2018

School's out for summer! Hopefully, if you have little ones at home, you have already mapped out a plan for summer camps, activities and fun. But... did you include any charitable activities in those summer plans? Teaching your children about giving at a young age will instill a sense of philanthropy that will grow with them for the rest of their lives. There are thousands of nonprofit organizations in the United States that support an array of causes. If your child is interested in supporting something specific, check out GreatNonprofits to search by city or issue. If your child is interested in supporting our troops and veterans, we've got you covered! Just check out our blog with all of the many ways kids can get involved with Soldiers' Angels.

Where to Turn in Times of Crisis

June 05, 2018

The type of support we provide here at Soldiers’ Angels is not the only support needed by our military, their families, and our veterans. We are often asked about resources for financial support as, unfortunately, many of our heroes and their families fall on hard times during or after deployment. Although there are many organizations out there that provide this type of assistance, we put together a reference list of charities that we have worked with and vetted. Click through to our blog to learn more about how these organizations can help you.

Veteran Bat Company Partners with Hops for Heroes

June 04, 2018

Memorial Day 2018 marked the 7th annual brewing of a very special beer: Homefront IPA. Craft breweries from across the country participate in making this special beer and 100% of the proceeds are donated to Soldiers' Angels to support our mission of providing aid and comfort to our troops, military families, wounded heroes, and veterans of all eras. This year, we were very excited to have a new partner in the project, Veteran Bat Company. Learn more about Veteran Bat Company and how these bats play a special role in brewing Homefront IPA.

The Final Count is IN!

The final count from the 2018 Warm Feet for Warriors sock collection drive is IN! Our goal was to collect 8,000 pairs of socks... but we actually collected... drum roll please... 14,111 pairs of socks!!! Thank you all SO MUCH for your incredible support of this initiative! Because we use socks in care packages and at VA Hospitals so frequently throughout the year, we will gladly accept sock donations at any time (donations just won't count towards Warm Feet for Warriors). Otherwise, join us next February for the 2019 Soldiers' Angels Warm Feet for Warriors collection drive!

The Hops for Heroes project was started in 2011 when soon-to-be brewery owner and major league pitcher Chris Ray approached Matt Lincecum from Fremont Brewing about brewing a beer for charity. America's Favorite Mom

In 2008 on the 100th Anniversary of Mother's Day, Soldiers' Angels founder, Patti Patton-Bader received the surprise of a lifetime— she won the title of America's Favorite Mom, a contest created by Teleflora and NBC. With awards, television appearances, and more, Patti was honored not only for her title of "mom" to her family, but also the work that she did for service members around the world by creating Soldiers' Angels. Although it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, surprisingly, that is not Patti's favorite Mother's Day memory— but this was...

Our Blanket Drive is Back!

One of the unique ways our volunteers give back to veterans is to perform patient visits at VA Hospitals around the country. Whenever we have blankets to give, the volunteers will present a blanket to the patient during that visit. Hospitals can be cold and your own special blanket helps make the stay a little bit better. We also like to send blankets to the deployed service members we support. Although they may not need the blanket for warmth like the veteran patients, the blanket does provide comfort. Simple reminders of home, like blankets, are often what help service members make it through long, hard deployments. Although we accept donations of blankets at any time during the year, we are currently running our Annual Blanket Drive from now through August 31st. Learn more here and help us provide warmth and comfort to our veterans and deployed.
